Injection For Tennis Elbow

What is tennis elbow?

Tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis is a painful condition caused when tendons on the outside of your elbow are inflamed due to overuse. Patients most often complain of pain at or around the bony prominence of the outer elbow (lateral epicondyle) that often radiates down along the outer aspect of the forearm and occasionally proximally into the upper arm.

How is tennis elbow injection performed and what drugs are used for injection?

The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis. The procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance to ensure accuracy of needle placement. Generally a mixture of local anaesthetic and steroid is injected. The local anaesthetic agent within the injectate reduces the pain, whereas corticosteroids may reduce inflammation.

Complications like infection and nerve injury are rare.
